A biopunk/clockpunk set in a world populated by miserable people who struggle through violence and hard decisions towards a bleak ending. The world-building is definitely awesome, and its take on issues like the controversy of bioengineering, fossil power and global warming, nationalism, new colonialism and intellectual property etc. are interesting and somewhat refreshing. Often the author seems to be presenting all sides of an argument and their potential implications without endorsing any side, and leaves those questions open to the end.
According to a Thai sf/f fan blogger acrackedmoon the author made many mistakes in Thai language & culture, & she finds many aspects of it racist & very offensive.
