The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger A really beautifully written novel. I don't know whether or not I understand it correctly, but to me Holden's attitude is more or less a cynical reaction on modernization and the lost of the so-called "nature" or "innocence" or traditional value or old-fashioned Romanticism, i.e. not quite the attitude of an average teenager.
